The storm is named for the Candlestick Park Shopping Center in the southwest part of Jackson, Mississippi, which was completely destroyed. After passing through Jackson, leaving F5 damage in its wake, the storm (probably a very intense tornado family) left a nearly continual damage path over long across seven Mississippi and three Alabama counties, causing 58 fatalities and 518 injuries before dissipating northeast of Tuscaloosa.
