Information
has glosseng: Curtis Island, once known as Negro Island, is an island located in the exterior of Camden Harbor, in Camden, Maine. There is a lighthouse and caretaker's house on the southwestern point of the island. There are two paths around either side of the island and one open grassy one down the middle. The Southern path has many rosebushes in one area, therefore those with bee allergies should stick to the northern or center paths. The center path has a very large swing which can provide hours of entertainment. Caution should be followed when taking the exterior paths as there are steep rocky cliffs. In past years, eagles have decided to nest on the island, resulting in the cancellation of various events. There is a guest log, however there are no public restrooms, so it is best to plan ahead and empty your bowels prior to venturing out on this land form. It is best to land on the harbor facing side (northern) of the island as there is a haul in line and stairs.
