| has gloss | eng: Sir Douglas Morpeth (born 6 June 1924 in Perth, Scotland) is a British accountant. He was born the elder son of Robert and Louise Morpeth. His maternal grandfather was H. J. Dobson, the Scottish genre artist, who painted the portrait of Keir Hardy, the first ever Labour MP, now in the National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh. His uncle, Cowan Dobson painted two Prime Ministers, Clement Attlee and Harold Wilson. Educated at George Watson’s College, Edinburgh. He served in the Royal Artillery in India, Burma and Malaya, and was demobilised in 1947 in the rank of Captain. He attended Edinburgh University 1947 to 1949, obtaining a Business Study degree. He met Anne Rutherford Bell (daughter of Ian C. Bell OBE, MC) at University and married her in May 1951 just before he qualified as a Chartered Accountant. They have two sons and two daughters, six grandsons and three granddaughters. They celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 2001. |
