| has gloss | eng: NASAs Echo 2 satellite was a diameter metalized PET film balloon, which was the last baloon satellite launched by Project Echo. Echo 2 used an inflation system which was improved from the Echo 1, in order to augment the balloons smoothness and sphericity. It was launched on January 25, 1964 onboard a Thor Agena rocket, and reentered the Earth's atmosphere on June 7, 1969. It was used for further passive communications experiments, to investigate the dynamics of large spacecraft, and for studying the global geometric geodesy. NASA abandoned passive communications systems in favor of active satellites following Echo 2. |
