The neighborhood starts at the Nassau County line and extends west to Beach 32nd Street. The neighborhood is part of Queens Community Board 14. . The neighborhood is named after the Rockaway (also known as Rechaweygh, Rechquaakie) Indians who once inhabited Long Island, in whose language the name meant "place of our people".
