| has gloss | eng: Introduction Hollongapar Gibbon Wildlife sanctuary, more popularly known asGibbon Wildlife Sanctuary lies between 26.40 - 26.45 degree north latitude and 94.20-94.25 degree East longitude and it covers an area of 20.98 sq. km. (including the area under Military Engineering Services of Indian Army) at Jorhat district of Assam. The Hoollongapar Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary was earlier known as Hoollongapar Forest during British period in 1881. The Government of Assam has notified it as Wildlife Sanctuary on 30th of July 1997 and since then it came to be known as Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary. But on 25th May, 2004 it was again renamed as Hoollonagapar Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary is situated at 100-120 msl and the average annual rainfall is 249 cm (Ghosh 2007).This sanctuary is approx. 19 km and 5 km far from Jorhat town and Mariani respectively. |
