He used dikes to stop the rivers from flooding, but they eventually collapsed after nine years and killed many people. He was executed by Shun, the king after Yao, and his responsibility was given to his son - Yu the Great. He was the son of Zhuanxu and a descendant of the Yellow Emperor.
