has glosseng: The heater shield is a form of shield characterized by its distinctive shape. Around 1250, the heater shield emerged as kite shields were becoming flat-topped and more triangular. Smaller than the kite-shield, it was more manageable and could be used either mounted or on foot . From the 15th century, it evolved into highly specialized jousting equipment, while with the development of full plate armour it ceased to be employed on the battlefield.
