| has gloss | eng: Malvani is a dialect of Konkani with significant Marathi influences. Some define it as a Creole between Konkani and Marathi. It is spoken in the southern part of Konkan Vibhag i.e. Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts; chiefly in the towns of Malvan,Kudal,Knakavli,Sawantwadi,Vengurla. It is also spoken in North Goa specially Pernem taluka. Census Board of India counts Malwani as Konkani dialect (which is official language of State of Goa). According to Census Board of India, there are around 46851 Malwani speakers throughout country out of 24Lac Konkani speakers. Malvani borrows many words and grammar syntaxes from both Konkani and Marathi. But still it has its own flavor of speaking. Even many words in Malvani have different meaning or they don't even occur in any of these languages. |
