| has gloss | eng: Peterborough is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, formally styled The Honourable the Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Parliament assembled. It elects one Member of Parliament by the first past the post system of election. The serving member is the Conservative, Stewart Jackson MP, who defeated Labours Helen Clark in the 2005 general election. Immediately following the election it was widely reported that Clark was planning to defect to the Conservative Party, an announcement which was not popular locally. However, by early June it emerged that while she had left the Labour Party, she had not in fact joined the Conservatives and did not intend to. The seat is 48th on Labours target list for the 2010 general election. |
