has glossdeu: Ein Badehaus (auch Badhaus, Badestube oder Stoben) war im Mittelalter und in der frühen Neuzeit ein öffentliches Bad, das im Auftrag der Gemeinde von einem Bader betrieben wurde. Es spielte etwa vom 13. bis zum 16. Jahrhundert eine wichtige Rolle in der Alltagskultur. Es diente nicht nur zur Körperpflege und der Behandlung von Krankheiten, sondern war auch ein beliebter gesellschaftlicher Treffpunkt. Gebadet wurde - mit oder ohne Geschlechtertrennung - meist am Samstag oder am Vorabend hoher Feiertage. In den Badehäusern, die heutigen Hygienevorstellungen bei weitem nicht entsprachen, wurden auch Tätigkeiten wie Zähneziehen, Haarschneiden, Rasur sowie kleinere chirurgische Eingriffe (Aderlass, Schröpfen) ausgeführt. Teilweise wurden in Badehäusern auch Bordelle betrieben.
