Pyrgos is the only Cypriot town located on the Morphou Bay controlled by the Greek-Cypriot government. Due to its location, being surrounded by the Troodos Mountains, the Turkish controlled exclave of Kokkina, and the Green Line, it is rather isolated and difficult to reach and gets significant numbers of visitors only in August during summer vacation.

Пиргос является единственным городом из находящихся в заливе Морфу, контролируемым правительством Республики Кипр. Благодаря своему расположению, в окружении гор Троодос, турецкого эксклава Коккина и «зеленой линии», это изолированный и труднодоступный район, поэтому туристический сезон проходит только в августе во время летних каникул. Зеленая линия проходит около Като Пиргос для облегчения поездок в Никосию, но эти планы пришлось отложить на некоторое время.
