has glosseng: Spinning (IPO) is the act or practice of a brokerage offering a portion of a companys IPO to the senior executives of a third party company in exchange for attracting that companys business to the brokerage. This was a relatively common way for brokerages to attract new clients in the past, but has since been prohibited. It is also simply called spinning. Its many detractors liken IPO spinning to a disguised form of corporate bribery and believe that it cheats two classes of investors:
