| has gloss | eng: The Royal Guardsmen are a rock band from Ocala, Florida, a sextet originally composed of Bill Balough (bass), John Burdett (drums), Chris Nunley (vocals), Tom Richards (guitar), Billy Taylor (organ), and Barry Winslow (vocals/guitar). Rick Cosner replaced John Burdett on drums in 2006. The current band performs regularly around the United States. Originally known as the Posmen, the band adopted their anglophile monicker during the British Invasion, led by The Beatles and other British artists. They achieved fame with their second (vinyl) single, "Snoopy Vs. The Red Baron" in 1966, which was also the title of their first album the same year. It soon reached #2 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, remaining in the bestsellers for 12 weeks, with an eventual one million sale in early 1967 and a gold record from the R.I.A.A. in February 1967. |

Ursprünglich hießen sie "The Pulsations", aber wegen der großen Erfolge britischer Bands wie den Beatles und den Rolling Stones zu dieser Zeit gaben sie sich einen britisch klingenderen Namen. Ihr erster Erfolg war 1966 der Hit "Snoopy Vs. The Red Baron", der auch der Titel ihres ersten Albums wurde. Auch in späteren Alben behandelten sie die gleichen Themen, Snoopy, Manfred von Richthofen (den roten Baron) und Flugzeuge. 1967 erschien z. B. "Return of the Red Baron" (Album und Single). Ende 1967 folgte das Album "Snoopy and His Friends", das in den amerikanischen Charts Platz 46 erreichte. Der bekannteste Song dieser LP ist "Snoopy's Christmas". Auf dem Cover der LP befanden sich Karikaturen der Bandmitglieder, die sogar von dem Snoopy-Erfinder Charles M. Schulz höchstpersönlich gezeichnet waren. Insgesamt brachten sie vier Alben heraus. Sie trennten sich 1969, nachdem die Erfolge nachgelassen hatten. |
