However the majority of Adventists believe tongues refer to unlearned human languages (xenoglossy) only, and are skeptical of tongues as practiced by charismatic and Pentecostal Christians today. However a number of prominent Adventist sources do allow for both forms. Isolated incidents of speaking in tongues have occurred throughout the history of the church.
