Lorsque lun des équipiers a «ouvert la voie» puis est redescendu, on peut utiliser la corde en place pour assurer un coéquipier. Celui-ci monte alors en ayant toujours la corde au-dessus de lui, parce quelle passe par le relais avant dêtre aux mains de celui qui assure par le bas. Il na, par ailleurs, pas besoin de placer des points dassurage intermédiaires (dégaines). Ensuite, la descente se réalise facilement sous la maîtrise de la personne chargée de tenir la corde (l'assureur). La descente en moulinette maintient souvent la corde en tension, ce qui contribue fortement à son usure. |

Questa tecnica può essere considerata "passiva", in quanto larrampicatore, una volta in vetta non gli resta altro che affidarsi al compagno. In molte falesie è possibile trovare soste con un anello di calata sorretto da due catene, ad ogni fine di un tiro di corda. Questo anello è chiuso, non potendolo aprire, lunica soluzione è quella di farci passare all'interno la corda per poi farsi calare dal compagno che si trova a terra. In questo caso bisogna aver ben presenti le manovre da eseguire per attrezzarsi alla discesa pur restando costantemente assicurato. Questa tecnica (detta anche top roping) può essere utilizzata semplicemente come metodo di assicurazione anziché di calata. |

| has gloss | nld: Topropen (werkwoord, afgeleid van het zelfstandig naamwoord toprope) is de klimtechniek waarbij het touw door een metalen hulpstuk zoals een musketon van beneden naar boven en weer terug loopt. Dit punt mag nooit bestaan uit éénpuntszekering. Het touw loopt van de zekeraar, die op de vloer staat, via deze gemaakte katrol weer naar de klimmer. De klimmer kan, mits hij goed is ingebonden, het katrolpunt zekervast en de zekeraar oplettend is, nooit echt vallen want hij wordt van boven af gezekerd en hangt bij een val vrijwel direct strak in het touw. De zekeraar gebruikt een zekeringapparaat dat dient als touwrem en blokkering. Doordat topropen dikwijls door niet ervaren klimmers wordt beoefend is dit niet altijd risicoloos. Ook is in sommige gebieden zoals Freÿr in België toprope aan voorwaarden onderworpen (voorklimmers hebben voorrang). |
