has glosseng: There are two islands in the San Juan Archipelago named Skull Island. One (48.46, -122.83) is located in Mud Bay, part of Lopez Sound, between the Sperry Peninsula of Lopez Island, and Fortress Island. The other, Skull Island Marine State Park (48.6394, -122.985) is a 2½ acre (1.0 ha), uninhabited island in Massacre Bay, just off the coast of Orcas Island. This island was named because of the skulls and bones that were found there after a band of Lummi were killed by invading Haida in 1858.
